LYRICS
TWIST MY SOUL
You twist my soul
You bring me down, like a lonely street
You raise me up till I’m on my feet again
It’s like, it’s like you twist my soul.
You twist my soul
Like a force from another planet
You give me hope, till I just can’t stand it
You really, really, really, really, really twist my soul
I could be there in Market Square
Trying to figure out those twelve bar blues
Or, stuck in a hole, like a rabbit on the run
Well I got you, I got you to pull me through
You twist my soul
You send the wind to move my sail
You give me strength in case I fail
You got me, you got me, you got me, you twist my soul
I could be there in Market Square
Trying to figure out those twelve bar blues
Or, stuck in a hole, like a rabbit on the run
Well I got you, to pull me through
CLOSER
It’s been an awful long time
Since you wandered out to nowhere
I can feel the pain like a soldier in love
I’m just a stone’s throw away
I’ll be there before the end of the day
CHORUS:
It’s closer (than you think)
Yes, it’s closer, (than you think)
It’s closer to the place we always used to stay
There’s a certain circle of friends that say
You’ve got some kind of lover
Doesn’t matter, I still want to be your man
If you could give me a minute in time
I’d find a way to rewind you
CHORUS
BRIDGE
It may not be my place to say
But I really think that we were made
For each other, every day
Well, it may not be my place to say
But I really that think we were made
For each other, every day (REPEATED)
It’s been an awful long time
Since you wandered out to nowhere
I can feel the pain like a soldier in love
I’m just a stone’s throw away
I’ll be there before the end of the day
CHORUS
GODS OF VALENCIA
Once you were known as the town of Valencia
Urban reform has taken its toll
Perhaps time has changed your reflection
But beauty can never be shook apart from your soul
The sun is alive like the stars in your virgin sky
Love makes your chimney tops blush
Just look what you’ve done
Pray to the gods of Valencia
They may have mercy on you
And sacrifice all of their power to give us their sun
From Sierra d’Espadan down through south Costa Blanca
Let gulls fly your oceans and sandpipers run
Cold bitter winds are so seldom visible
Well, the gods of Valencia relented and gave us their sun
The sun is alive like the stars in your virgin sky
Love makes your chimney tops blush
Just look what you’ve done
Pray to the gods of Valencia
They may have mercy on you
And sacrifice all of their power to give us their sun
Once you were known as the town of Valencia
Urban reform has taken its toll
Perhaps time has changed your reflection
But beauty can never be shook apart from your soul
But beauty can never be shook apart from your soul
But beauty can never be shook apart from your soul
STUPEFIED
It’s not my style to be sentimental
It’s just that my DNA
Is on the wrong side of gentle
There’s no doubt it’s not the best way
But it’s what we signed up for
So put that sign on the door
It’s just my point of view
I’ve been stupefied by you
You’re like a national treasure
Better than the sum of all its parts
Don’t want to put too much pressure on words
When I can give you my heart
So come on, let’s walk on a tight rope
Let’s dwell on faint hope
Well it’s just my point of view
I’ve been stupefied by you
I used to be so busy
Like a paper in the breeze
I’d get so dizzy
Like a finch in a deep freeze
Seeing you on the stairs in high school
Made me weak in the knees
I got so stupefied by you (REPEAT)
ANGEL'S DANCE
Watching treasured memories
Photos make eternity
They’re everything and anything and you
Seeing time in circumstance
Painted in an angel’s dance
It’s everything and anything… and you
CHORUS:
You’ve crossed the stream to the other side
You’ve scaled the mountain top, regardless of its pride
You’ve got the power now; the wind is waiting to
Reserve an angel’s dance with you
Floating from a shiny cloud
Rain befalls your little town
On everything, on anything… on you
Washing down a weathered gate
Spinning time is worth the wait
You’re everything, yes anything… it’s you
CHORUS:
Watching treasured memories
Photos make eternity
They’re everything and anything… and you
Seeing time in circumstance
Painted in an angel’s dance
BOOGIE MAN
The sins of the son are the sins of the father before him
The hearts that he broke were the ones that were used to adore him
So come on, take a look at him now
He just wants to be in command
Cancel that appointment
Cuz you don’t want a date with the Boogie Man
The trade that you ply is a trade that is human disaster
The pain you receive only leads to your dying much faster
So, come on take a look at him now
He just wants to be in command
Slip under the covers
Cuz you don’t want a date with the Boogie Man
Some say he’s warm to the touch
But you know that ain’t much
I think he’s crazy and you know that maybe I’m right
Don’t tell me I’m wrong
Why don’t you say to him, “Na, na, na, na, na… … na?”
Red be the colour of choice, not a statement of fashion
Trying to last through the day is your only distraction
So come on, take a look at him now
You don’t want to be in command
Cancel that appointment
Cuz you don’t want a date with the Boogie Man
Some say you’re cold to the touch
But you know that ain’t much
You want a lover, it’s yours to discover you’re right
Don’t tell me I’m wrong
Come on and say to him, “Na, na, na, na, na… na”
CHRONICALLY ECSTATIC
I don’t know which road I should be takin’
I just know my foolish heart is breakin’
You don’t seem to give no clear direction
It’s just as though we had a bad connection
CHORUS:
Well, I don’t know what I’m gonna do
Don’t know if you’re lying or you’re telling the truth
And I don’t know what I’m gonna do
Cuz I’m chronically ecstatic about you, babe
I’m talking about you, babe
Oh, I’m talking about you, babe
You say there’s a northern wind that’s blowin’
It caused your crowded thoughts from growin’
You don’t seem to want give no clear direction
Like a broken traffic light in a busy intersection
CHORUS
EVERYTHING ABOUT YOU
You sit around at Sammy’s Grill with a book, beside the bar
You always walk from Market Street, cuz you don’t own a car
I know you like your coffee with a bit of aspartame
I know everything about you, but your name
Your staring really creeped me out, I prayed that it would stop
Admittedly, I very nearly had to call the cops
But after weighing options, you’re really not to blame
I know everything about you, but your name
CHORUS:
Don’t know your name
There isn’t time to wait
Don’t know your name
I hope that I’m not late
There is a click between us
I hope you feel the same
I know everything about you, but your name
Your hair is such a compliment to everything on you
You pay your bill with Master Card, while buffing up your shoes
Time is very fickle, it’s steadily a game
I know everything about you, but your name
It’s not a common practice, the way you never quit
A flattering display is such that I’m okay with it
I feel that click between us, I hope you feel the same
I know everything about you, but your name
CHORUS:
BRIDGE:
Love tries to keep me in the dark
Here’s hoping I can win your heart
Your anatomy is off the charts
Come on baby, can’t you feel that spark?
CHORUS/BRIDGE
LUCIFER
You’ve got your way with gentlemen
They see you as a prize
You send them invitations
Then you cut them down to size
You don’t have much compassion
You always deal the cards
In never ending circles
And it makes you look so hard
CHORUS:
But you’re just so delectable
Yes, yes you are
So often that you’re courteous
So seldom are you blue
But every now and then
I feel a little bit of Lucifer in you
I’ve seen you flaunt your memory
Your leery, crazy eyes
A coat of claret velvet
With never ending thighs
You hold such high positions
Your followers are stuck
They tremble as you walk away
And it hits them like a truck
CHORUS
You wear your flaming hair up
Into a hasty plume
Your nails scratch out the surface
And deep down to the womb
You thrive on superstition
You always keep your space
It tempts me like an apple
But it haunts me face to face
CHORUS
C SPOT RUN
I got a dog named Spot, you should see him run
Well, I got a dog named Spot, you should see him run
He come all the way from Hammerton
Just to spray my new mowed lawn
Well, I got a friend named Dick, you should see him run
I got a friend named Dick, you should see him run
He come all the way from Hammerton
Just to spray my new mowed lawn
Jane got a kid named Sally, you gotta see them ride
(Ride Sally, ride)
Jane got a kid named Sally, you should see them ride
(Ride Sally, ride)
They come all the way from Hammerton
Just to be by my side
I got a dog named Spot, you should that cat run
Well, I got a dog named Spot, you gotta see that cat run
He come all the way from Hammerton
Just to spray my new mowed lawn
He come all the way from Hammerton
Just to spray my new mowed lawn
He come all the way from Hammerton
Just to spray my new mowed lawn
THE DISCONTENTED STORY of ANDREW MACFEE (Mind Yer Heid!)
There was a young lad named Andrew Mc Fee
Saw no future in the old Scottish town of Dundee
It was 1881 and the times were so stale
So he crossed the great sea, lest his prospects should fail… “Mind yer heid!”
CHORUS:
Mind yer heid, mind yer heid,
Your troubles are many indeed!
Don’t ever give up,
Without filling your cup!
Mind yer heid!
Well, he came to the Canada’s, Victoria’s fair land
Without pennies or clear destination in hand
He roamed to Singhampton, near the town of Duntroon
Cuz the name made him think of some old Gaelic tune… “Mind yer heid!”
With no job, no religion, not a hint of his plans
He decided to join a great Highlander’s Band
The captain in charge took a shine to our lad
Presented him bagpipes and Buchanan plaid… “Mind yer heid!”
Well Andrew, he practised from morning till night
Till he finally became the best piper in sight
He played for the farmers and the nobles who’d died
And his living was made from his talent and pride… “Mind yer heid!”
Andrew met a beauty, her grace was her fame
In church they did marry, Laura Chisholm her name
Two children they bred little Donald and Dand
His money was small, but his family was grand… “Mind yer heid!”
Now Andrew went hunting in late ninety-four
With his gun and his pipes and his great horse McCore
In search of a pheasant, thru bogs and thru fen
He pulled out his gun and reloaded again… “Mind yer heid!”
He shot at a critter, a grey goose so large
But he tripped on a crag and his rifle discharged
His leg was so shattered, that blood ever poured
And he lay on the earth, cuz his time weren’t much more… “Mind yer heid!”
McCore fled the scene, leaving nothing to show
No water, no fiddles, just his bagpipes in tow
Well, Andrew aware that his life was declined
He just played the last tune that came to his mind… “Mind yer heid!”
He died by the dusk, in the bogs of Duntroon
Just a vision of beauty, by the light of the moon
He was left there forever, in the damp, fertile land
With only that rifle and bagpipes in hand… “Mind yer heid!”
SUCKER PUNCH
Now my songs are done
My moment in the sun
Walls come crashing down
There’s no one left around
It’s a signal, it’s a sign
That I have passed my prime
It’s a killer, it’s a drag
When time begins to sag
When everything goes your way
You just smile, cuz it makes your day
But when sorrow strikes instead
It’s like a sucker punch to the head
Just say, “A… a…, a… all men”
